Updates on Sheila D. - Newest at top
Oct 5, 2025
Today was the first day I could visit Sheila in a couple of weeks as I was ill and could not go to the facility.
It was so good to see her.
She actually said a few more words than she had said before.
She is in her new room - 4C and it also has a window into a courtyard so that was good.
I told her that over the next week or so, I will start the fund-raising campaign for that stroke treatment in FL. She smiled big, laughed, then cried for joy. I will let you all know the info once it's set up.
As you will see in the pic above, she got a haircut last week.
She is looking like her old self!

PRAISE REPORT!
Sheila WILL be staying in Redding in the same facility!
I'll let you know the 'new' room number when they move her to it.
I've been sick for over a week...getting better...but can't go in the facility as long as I have symptoms. I call her..LOL...in English, it's a one way conversation...but have not seen her. I'm expecting by the end of the week to be able to go back to visit.
I know last week she did have a manicure and a haircut done.

Lots of things happening.
Sheila continues to progress.
Most of her words are still unintellible, but some clear ones pop
out at intervals - like on the video above.
You can see she now can use the apek device to stand up to get
in and out of bed and wheelchair. Great news.
She is now in the regular dining room instead of the special one where
they have people to help people eat.
She has a tool created for autistic children that has a Yes and No button
that says it out loud. She is able to use that when we have questions we really an answer to.
Covid was in the facility and they had it in quarantine for about 2 weeks
and just released the quarantine - YAY.
We are still pursuing her to remain here in Redding. She's been approved for
MediCal that would cover the long term care along with her SS.
Please continue to pray.
I'm waiting for her son to call the clinic about the stroke treatment and get his 2 questions answered. I won't start the fund-raiser for the treatment until he does. I know she wants the treatment.
The facility will allow a 'pass' and if we have people to help her, she can go to church or out for a visit. Just have to have them help her in/out of the car and wheelchair. Wheelchair can fold to go in trunk or backseat. She's excited at the thought of that.

Another week has passed and Sheila continues to have improvement.
She is now on basically regular food and is eating it well and has no
coughing or choking issues. She eats all her protein and sometimes
other things. She definitely needs to eat more and hydrate more as well.
She is getting some better on the Apex - a thing where she lifts herself
from sitting to standing. And even did some steps with 2 strong people
supporting her.
She continues to be more verbal, but it's not understandable and it's very
frustrating for her not to be able to communicate. She has not progressed
in being able to say yes or no or point to a board with yes and no on it.
URGENT PRAYER 2 ITEMS
They are planning to send her to the Bay area in probably a few days.
It boils down to insurance and no long term beds here in the area.
We have contacted ombudsman and others, but there appears to not
be any other solution at this time.
VERY IMPORTANT POSSIBLE TREATMENT FOR SHEILA
A friend sent me an article about a doctor who has been treating stroke
victims for many years with AMAZING results.
60 Minutes Australia did a story about it back in 2012..and he is still doing
it and thousands have been treated from all over the world and a clinical study
done back in 2020.
I played the 60 Minutes video for Sheila and she broke out in tears.
I told her that if we didn't see a supernatural miracle from God, that there
is still hope for her.
Check out this website and watch the 60 min video.

I have called the clinic in FL and they said that people usually get the
optimum results by having one shot and a week later have a second.
Each shot costs $8500 - so needing $17,000 for the treatment - not covered
by insurance. I'm going to research the best platform to use to raise funds.
Watch the video, look at the research and more info. About 80% have very
positive results.

Aug 8- 2nd Update
I visited Sheila today.
Wow, she is communicating more and more.
She actually moved her head up and down for a yes.
And when she is talking, there's occasionally a word I recognize and she is really working hard to make herself understood.
Also, it look like she was trying to print her name on a whiteboard and I had her try to write some letters and teased her that temporarily she will be a 'lefty' like. I told her if I was trying to write with my right hand, it would not be pretty either. ;-)
Great visit today.
Aug 8, 2025
I apologize for no new updates. I have been swamped.
Sheila has continued to progress in many areas.
She now makes 'sounds' and words all the time in trying
to talk. Basically they are not understandable, but they are
SOUNDS. This is a good start.
This week, I saw flex her right foot and be able to lift her right
knee in the bed. YAY
They have not been able to progress her beyond pureed foods..
that was as of yesterday. I'll find out today when I visit. She really
needs to be upgraded because she is not eating enough because
she doesn't like it.
They don't seem to be keeping her up in the wheelchair as much
as before and I want that to change as she needs to be 'exercising'
and building her strength.
She still is absolutely engaging, singing and worshiping when we
watch the stream church service. She love it and I know it ministers
to her.
I sent out an URGENT prayer request last night.
Her 21 days in this facility ends on Tues. They are planning
on moving her to a rehab facility in the Bay area. This is about
3.5 hours each way away. I know I can't drive that and most of
her friends will be lucky if they can do it once a month.
The issue is basically her insurance. No facility wants to take
people with a Medicare Advantage policy...the one we were all
told was the best to have - NOT!
So, some facility here would have to be willing to admit her
and at the moment, there is not. God can do a miracle.
If this doesn't go the way I know we would all want, I have to
stand on Ro 8:28 - ALL things work together for good to those
that love God and are called according to his purpose.
I am standing for FULL restoration! Thank you for your prayers!
July 27 Sunday
She continues to improve seemingly every day ...Thank you Jesus.
She tries many times to vocalize, but in general has not been able to do that.
She is starting to make occasional 'sounds' like 'ah, um' that usually can be interpreted in response to something that is being said. Her cognition seems to be very good.
She understands and follows commands as best she can. If she can't speak it, she will usually smile. She can feed herself, in general as well.
And as you can see on the video, she has not lost her beautiful or Joy of the Lord.
I brought her tablet this morning and streamed our church service. You could see her feeling the Presence of the Lord and responding in her own way in worship.
During the worship, she actually was singing the words to songs she knew or humming. It was exciting!!! Singing seems to be easier than talking - and especially if it's a song that has strong emotional value to her. And during the sermon, she laughed and made sounds appropriately.
Points for Prayer
1. Total Healing - especially her being able to talk-most important so she can communicate her wishes, thoughts etc.
2. Get her diet level moved to more solid foods as she basically will not eat any pureed meat.
I'm giving her some good yogurt that has 20g protein to help with that. She was eating 'minced' foods in the hospital. I have requested her diet be upgraded.
3. Have her P.T. get more agressive and have her do all she can herself to make herself stronger. She was able to pull herself up and stand at the last in the hospital to get into a chair...she had to have support etc as her right side remains flaccid. In rehab, they have just been getting her up in a hoyer lift-she does not need that and needs to work her muscles.
4. Rehab is stating (in the first 24 hours of her being there), that she will need 24/7 care the rest of her life. You know myself and others are not agreeing with that prognosis. I know God has more for her! She has a minimum of 21 days in rehab. If they don't see whatever progress they need, then she must go into Long Term Care-LTC - Nursing home. And they are saying, there are no LTC beds available for her in Redding. Her son has asked for prayer to find a place here in Redding. Yes, if she has to go to LTC, we all want it here in Redding so her friends, etc can come and visit easily.
She was admitted to River Valley Wellness on July 21 or 22 for rehab.
Sheila had a stroke on July 14, 2025. She was admitted to Mercy Hospital.
They attempted to remove the blockage, but were not able to do so because of
the location.
She is aphasic - can't speak and has right side paralysis.
Sheila is currently in River Valley Wellness Center.
2490 Court St, Room 4C, Redding, CA 96001
